Job description

Elasticsearch Engineer- Reading, UK
I am currently working with a world leading media monitoring and insight platform who are looking to grow their team in Reading with an exceptional Elasticsearch Engineer on a permanent basis.

The role:
As an engineer you will be building petabyte-scale search and analytics systems using Elasticsearch running on AWS.

Their team oversees the most important component of all their products: the search platform, which is responsible for retrieving and analysing all the company's editorial and social media content. Every day, they contribute hundreds of millions of news stories, tweets, and Facebook posts to their Elasticsearch clusters, which are constantly growing - the largest cluster operates on a thousand cloud servers.

They run on AWS and rely heavily on AWS services such as Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Terraform, and Docker, as well as a mixture of other database and communications technologies as needed.

You should have some prior expertise with search engines, big data analytics, infrastructure, systems engineering, and distributed systems to be considered for this position. You will have the ability to investigate and push the technology they utilise to their boundaries as a member of their team. It may be necessary to make minor changes to open-source libraries, or it may be necessary to combine two existing technologies in an innovative way.

On the software side, they use a lot of Java and Kotlin, as well as Spring, RxJava, and microservices. For data science, machine learning, and linear optimization, they use Python. Long experience with Java or Python is not required; instead, they desire an engineer who has a track record of quickly picking up new skills.

For this role, they are searching for an experienced Software Engineer that wants to advance their career in a company that values cross-team and cross-national communication. Because of their huge production size, even minor decisions you make could have a significant impact on their product and their many clients. This is the organisation for you if you get enthusiastic talking about distributed systems at scale or inventing new ways to obtain insights from all the world's data!

Experience required:
*At least 5 years' experience working with Elasticsearch in a large-scale environment.
*Good experience with databases e.g., NoSQL
*Strong knowledge of Kubernetes/Docker
*Any experience with AWS is seen as a bonus
*You enjoy solving problems together with others
*Excellent communication skills English
*You are eligible to work in the EU
