Job description

Engineering Manager

Working for a leading insurance company on an initial 6 month contract and can be based anywhere in the UK. You will facilitate technical conversations with engineers to develop simple solutions to sophisticated problems. You will not be expected to write code most of the time, but are able to meaningfully contribute to and guide technical discussions on code quality through to testing strategy and software architecture.

Responsibilities:
*Be a technical leader, who guides decisions across approaches to software engineering, testing, architecture technology choices, releases, deployment and operations.
*Passionate about building teams. Collaborative, empathetic and supportive management style, empowering your team to develop be autonomous and solve customers needs.
*Knowledgeable and experienced in agile working, ensuring and guiding effective collaboration in the team and continuous improvement in working practices
*Guide sessions on estimation, story refinement, ensuring that acceptance criteria are well defined and that the backlog is suitable for the technical team
*Participate and drive initiatives relating to people management including recruiting, onboarding, performance reviews, career advancement, training, etc.
*Drive technical initiatives to build clean, robust, maintainable, and performant systems.
*Active engagement in technical discussions during architecture meetings, code reviews, and design sessions promoting a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
*Develops a strong culture of Build, Run, Own ensuring the team collectively own codebases and understand choices
*Supporting the continuous delivery of working software to production by working to construct roadmaps appropriately, identify suitable releases, create appropriate definitions of done and ready for the team and helping manage dependencies

Experience required:
*Strong technical background across cloud, AWS, DevOps, Agile etc.
*Experience in dealing with production issues and using retrospectives to resolve customer problems
*Actively shares knowledge with others
*Gives and asks for feedback regularly
*Technical acumen able to justify technology choices to technical and non-technical audiences
