Intellectual Property Counsel - Gloucester - Permanent - Energy - £ Negotiable Salaries

A Leader within the energy sector is looking for an experienced IP Counsel on a permanent basis. Salaries are negotiable and dependent on experience.

The Intellectual Property Counsel is an Intellectual Property Attorney who functionally reports to a Product Group, Managing, or Senior Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property, with primary responsibility for Intellectual Property programs in specified business areas. The position is analogous to that of a Senior Associate in a Law Firm.

Responsibilities include:

- Handle routine Intellectual Property matters independently

- Handle complex Intellectual Property matters with moderate direction

- Lead management review of invention disclosures and patent portfolio reviews.

- Develop IP strategies for new products and services and provide IP support throughout the product development lifecycle.

- Monitor development projects for IP opportunities and clearance

- Generate IP reports as required for product development gateposts

- Draft, file and prosecute patent applications.

- Manage assigned patent portfolio.

- Provide training and counsel to technical staff on legal and IP-related topics.

- Draft IP-related agreements.

- Work within a geographically dispersed IP functional team

- Provide legal and policy advice and development to Management

Should be able to:

- Manage own work activities on location with minimum oversight

- Set appropriate priorities and work on multiple concurrent tasks

- Supervise outside counsel activities, budget and provision of timely deliverables

- Complete legal work on schedule and on budget

- Exhibit high degree of competence in most Intellectual Property legal areas

- Exhibit high specialty expertise in at least one Intellectual Property or technical area

- Moderate level of responsibility for functional management

- Moderate level of influence on Management decisions.


- European Patent Attorney and UK Chartered Patent Attorney qualifications or US Patent Attorney

- University Technical Degree


- Minimum of 6 years legal practice (in Intellectual Property activities) in either a Law Firm or Company environment
