Job Description

Job title:Proposals Engineer (Fire & Security)
Reporting to:Proposals Manager

Job Summary
The role will be instrumental in driving growth and profitability through the fire & security business by 1) improving win rates, 2) improving executed margin performance, and 3) increasing percentage of multi-solution sales. The proposal engineer will be a key player in opportunity win teams and it is expected that the successful candidate will take great pride in their work and be a champion of quality at all times.

You will require a strong core technical skill set to enable effective solutions to be configured (fire detection and/or security experience), but the successful candidate will also demonstrate commercial tenacity to ensure our solutions are designed innovatively (whilst remaining code compliant) and positioned to leverage the features of our group product, and the value defined as win themes in the strategic opportunity plan.

The role will be office based, and you will work with a diverse community of sales executives and teams - it is critical that you have strong communication skills to enable quality conversations with field sales teams, who will often be remote. Critical to success will be the quality of communication between the sales and proposals teams to ensure a clear win plan is developed, and that we work to achieve the best possible solution, positioned in the most appropriate way to win.



Responsibilities
Configure
Detailed design development of the solution - including value engineering/innovation ideas
Produce drawings, calculations and presentations to define the solution
Fully qualify the scope of work and define exact working requirements
Leverage group products at all opportunities
Communicate directly with the Customer for information requests or clarity

Price
Developing cost schedules including detailed breakdowns, assessments and quotations.
Challenge each line to ensure accuracy and competitiveness
Work with suppliers and operational colleagues to achieve cost certainty
Collaborate with broader business to define pricing strategy within the plan to win

Propose
Create high quality and effective proposals, leveraging suite of enterprise standards
Ensure proposal reflects and demonstrates plan to win
Revise and develop proposals in line with Customer feedback and agreements
Update and support opportunity status within CRM solution

Other
Develop bid presentation support material
Attend handover meetings to ensure effective communication to operational teams on more complex schemes
Lead internalisation strategy by utilising Tyco products at all opportunities & articulate the value
Manage all activities within salesforce.com
Checking and reviewing your own, and your colleagues design/proposals prior to issue

Experience
Proven experience in designing solutions for fire detection, and/or security systems (or related electrical/building services solutions)
Producing proposal documents, specifications, Customer presentations and supporting material
Cost schedule development and production
Awareness of Health & Safety regulations/requirements, construction industry processes and contract documentation

Knowledge
Fire and/or security technical standards (system design codes along with industry relevant standards)
Electrical wiring standards/requirements
PC literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
CAD / 3-D modelling / design packages
Configure - price - quote tools and applications
Formal procurement and construction processes and systems
CRM management and use

Education
Educated to A-level standard (or equivalent)
Specific training associated with technical standards, codes or industry related programmes
