Amelia Bampton

Managing Consultant

Please provide a brief background about yourself:

I have worked in tech for my whole career which is around 20 years now. I started as a Business Analyst and eventually moved into more delivery focused roles across various consultancies along with in-house tech teams like Vodafone.

In my current role I am on the leadership team and a board member, this role sees me in a more holistic operational leadership position where you get to cover all aspects of the pipeline.

How would you describe your day-to-day role?

It’s very busy, every half an hour is taken up in my diary and every meeting is different, it’s eclectic.

I spend my day talking to my delivery teams, working on account strategy, and helping to fill the pipeline. I do a lot of brand marketing and events, I sometimes have talks around career development, there’s a huge mix of tasks that come under my role.

What led you to choose a career in this field?

I love change and trying to stretch myself and grow. I’m always looking for next development area. Which is why I work well in consultancy; every day is different and it’s a challenging place to be which suits me and my approach to life and work in general.

What convinced you to apply for your current role?

I wanted to work in a big company with collaborative teams. I enjoy going into the office and wanted to work somewhere that would mean I was always surrounded by people to learn from and work with. This position also gave me the opportunity to build on my enterprise delivery knowledge due to the scale of the company.

What’s the most exciting part of your role?

Delivering great tech that changes lives and businesses. Tech delivery is hard but I love the teamwork element of the challenge of tech delivery and once you are successful it makes it all worthwhile.

What’s the most challenging part of your role?

Explaining what actually goes into tech delivery and how difficult it can be. Why you need all the people with the skillsets they have and convincing people to not just look at the numbers and instead the value and output that can be achieved.

How is working where you are now different from previous roles you’ve had?

Compared to working in previous companies I now have less flexibility and autonomy, but it means I get to work on much bigger scale projects.

I believe that to be efficient in your career you need to understand and appreciate the ecosystem you are in and make it work for you.

What is your greatest accomplishment since starting out?

Finding joy in my work along with finding the right balance between life and work and spending time with my family.

What hobbies do you have outside of work?

Going to the gym, I like to run 10Ks and I enjoy meeting with friends for lunch

If you could describe your day in three words, what would they be?

·     Diverse, Stimulating, Community

What’s the best piece of advice you would offer to future women in their careers?

Be authentic and know yourself. You don’t have to fit the stereotype to be successful. Find your people and be yourself.
