Are you an experienced Linux professional passionate about security, automation, and empowering others

My client is seeking to recruit two very strong Linux Support Engineers for long term assignments in the Manchester area

The successful candidates will join a dedicated team delivering a comprehensive Linux patching support service for a large customer base and will be instrumental in establishing and executing a robust, managed approach to patch management.

Define and implement a Linux patching strategy, set up regular patching cadences, and introduce best practices aligned to stringent security and operational requirements.

A strong focus will be placed on knowledge transfer, enabling the customer’s staff to take ownership of patch management as part of their ongoing BAU operations.

Key Responsibilities will include

Develop and implement a Linux patching strategy to ensure consistent application of critical security patches and updates across all relevant systems.

Collaborate with business owners, security, infrastructure, and application teams to optimise and reduce Linux infrastructure costs.

Establish a regular patching cadence with clear timelines and processes to maintain system security and compliance.

Perform hands-on patch management, covering identification, testing, deployment, and verification of patches for Linux OS and associated applications.

Coordinate patching activities with internal teams and suppliers to minimise disruption.

Define and document patching processes, including rollback procedures, risk assessments, and communication plans.

Provide knowledge transfer and training to customer staff to facilitate effective ongoing BAU patch management.

Monitor and report on patching status, compliance, and any issues arising from deployments.

Ensure alignment with customer security policies, NHS standards, and industry best practices.

Troubleshoot and resolve patch-related issues to maintain system performance and availability.

Foster collaboration between security, infrastructure, and application teams for optimal patch management outcomes.

Mentor and support junior engineers, helping the customer build self-sufficiency in patch management.

Ensure service delivery is structured, transparent, and collaborative, enabling immediate improvements and building sustainable internal capability within the customer’s organisation.

To be considered for these roles candidates will need to demonstrate

Proven experience in Linux patch management and systems administration.

Strong understanding of security principles, automation, and best practice frameworks.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with diverse teams.

Ability to deliver knowledge transfer and mentor others, empowering them to become self-sufficient.

Experience in documenting processes and implementing risk management strategies.

If you are ready to make a significant impact on our customer’s Linux environment, ensuring robust patching compliance and building a culture of continuous improvement, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send your CV to me, Martin Warner, and I will get back to you as soon as possible
